Alloy 20 / UNS N08020 / DIN 2 is a chromium, nickel, and iron-based austenitic material based on chrome, nickel, and iron. It has been developed to promote resistance to acid attacks primarily sulfuric acids. The alloy has very good corrosion resistance properties. Furthermore, it has the ability to resist crevice corrosion and pitting in chemically containing environments. It has the ability to withstand phosphoric acid and nitric acid well. As well as containing niobium, it is stabilized in order to prevent sensitization from occurring. These pipes and tubes are available in different shapes and sizes.

In addition, the alloy has excellent corrosion resistance as well as high mechanical properties. Alloy 20 / UNS N08020 / DIN 2 is fabricated for use in sulfuric acid related engineering fields. Currently, it is a great choice for many industries across the globe.

In addition to the fact that Alloy 20 / UNS N08020 / DIN 2 has a lot of good properties, it is also recommended for the application of this alloy in most typical industrial applications since it has a number of good properties. There are a number of properties that are good, such as its corrosion resistance to sulfuric acid, its resistance to hot sulfuric acid and chloride stress corrosion cracking, as well as its good mechanical properties and fabricability.

Generally speaking, Toady Alloy 20 / UNS N08020 / DIN 2 is used in many different industrial applications. The industry sectors include food processing, construction, chemical industry, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, offshore oil drilling, power generation, pulp & paper manufacturing, condensers, heat exchangers, and many more.

Alloy 20 / UNS N08020 / DIN 2 Features

  • The corrosion resistance of this material to sulfuric acid is excellent in general
  • There is excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking in this product
  • An excellent combination of mechanical properties and fabricability
  • During welding, there is minimal precipitation of carbide
  • Exceptionally resistant to corrosion when exposed to hot sulfuric acids

Corrosion Resistance

  •  As a result, there is excellent corrosion resistance in chemicals containing chlorides, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and nitric acid, as well as crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion.

  • A nickel content contributes to the corrosion resistance and stress resistance of the coating, while copper and molybdenum add to the resistance against hostile environments, pitting, and crevice corrosion.

  • The presence of chrome can enhance the resistance of the material to oxidizing environments such as nitric acid, for example.

  •  A reduction in carbide precipitation can be achieved by the use of collumbium.

Weldability

  • As long as the Oxyacetylene is excluded from the list of common welding methods, all other weld methods can be successfully used.
  • In most cases, the presence of columbium prevents the precipitation of carbides in the heat-affected zone, so the material can be used in its as-welded condition in most cases.
  • In order to use this product, no pre-heating is necessary.

Heat Treatment

  • Heat treatment cannot be used to harden this material.
  • The stabilization annealing process is performed at 1750-1850oF, followed by the water quenching process.
  • On materials that have been annealed up to 950 degrees Fahrenheit, stress relieving can be carried out.

PROCESSING / HOT FORMING

  • In order for the stock to remain at 1800°F, you need to heat it uniformly to a starting temperature of 2100-2225°.
  • If the material is to be stabilized after a hot working operation, it should be reheated at 1750-1850oF for a minimum of 12 hours per inch of thickness, followed by a water quench operation.

PROCESSING / COLD FORMING

  • There is good formability of alloy 20 at a low temperature. Bending, drawing, pressing, and other forming operations that are undertaken when fabricating items can be accomplished with ease.
  • It is generally possible to press brake bend alloy 20 over a radius twice as large as the thickness of the material.
  • The final stabilizing step after cold reductions of more than 15% is often required after cold reductions of more

Alloy 20 / UNS N08020 / DIN 2 MACHINABILITY

  • There are a number of requirements for Alloy 20 because of its high work-hardening rate:

  1. In comparison to low-alloy standard austenitic stainless steel, the stainless steel is only capable of low surface-cutting speeds.

  2. Whenever possible, tools should be engaged at all times.

  3. As I mentioned earlier, heavy feeds are important for getting below the 'skin' of a work-hardened animal.
