DETAILED INFORMATION

Super duplex stainless steel is used in a wide variety of industries for some of the most demanding applications. This tube is exceptionally corrosion-resistant and mechanically strong due to its significant addition of chromium, molybdenum, and nickel. Super Duplex Tube is more stable in its microstructure when nitrogen is added. Approximately 50% of the microstructure consists of austenite and ferrite in an almost equal ratio. Many Super Duplex Tube suppliers recommend the use of these components in industries such as Flue Gas Scrubbing, Offshore Oil Production, Pulp & Paper Mills, and the Oil & Gas industry because of their exceptional resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

In spite of having many positive properties, the 2507 Super Duplex Seamless Tube is restricted by its high temperatures. Super Duplex 2507 Tubing produced in accordance with specification ASTM A789 is particularly important since using it above 600° F may cause harm. As a result, both toughness and corrosion resistance is diminished. Further, ASTM A789 UNS S32760 tubes tend to become brittle when exposed to temperatures above 600°F for extended periods. ASTM A789 UNS S32750 is usually subjected to heat and product analyses as well as mechanical tests in order to ensure conformance to the specification. In order to comply with this specification, heat-treated Super Duplex Welded Tubes must be provided at the specified temperatures and quench conditions according to the particularised temperature.

Stainless steel alloys with duplex properties have a combination of ferritic and austenitic characteristics, ensuring superior strength and oxidation resistance. There are many formulations in the duplex-grade family, but two of the most commonly used are duplex stainless steel S31803 (2205) and super duplex stainless steel S32750 (2507).

There are many applications for these stainless steel products in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and chemical processing industries. Duplex S31803, also known as stainless steel grade 2205, is a standardized formulation that conforms to UNS specifications. The typical temperature range for the product is -50° C to 300° C (-58° to 572° F); outside of this range, performance characteristics degrade. The micro-components of duplex S31803 are prone to precipitation because of prolonged exposure to high temperatures, while their ductility is reduced under extremely cold conditions.

The following are some of its general capabilities:

  • Oxidation resistance is excellent
  • Marine/seawater performance that is second to none
  • Coefficients of thermal expansion are low
  • Conductivity of heat is high

As a variant stainless steel alloy, super duplex S32750 (2507) is primarily used in offshore platforms, heat exchangers, structural components, and architectural components, primarily in the oil and gas industry. In addition to having high tensile and yield strength ratings, super duplex S32750 is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking, and pitting, and is very versatile due to its excellent weldability and flexibility.

A super duplex steel fastener is a microstructure of ferrite and austenite that is ideal for corrosion resistance and strength. In addition to molybdenum, nitrogen, and chromium, they are extremely resistant to corrosion in crevices and chloride pitting attacks. They are commonly used in aggressive environments such as chlorinated water, chloride-containing media, and other acidic environments. In addition to their good resistance to erosion and abrasion, these fasteners also provide excellent resistance to uniform and local corrosion at high temperatures. Marine and offshore applications require these fasteners to be installed in severe atmospheric conditions. They have low thermal expansion and fatigue resistance as well as high energy absorption, as well as good mechanical strength, and good weldability.

Advantages

  • A NORSAK-approved certification

  • Sizes that are not standard can be made to order

  • Resistance to corrosion and superior strength

  • Lead times are short

  • Batch sizes are small

The corrosion resistance of Super Duplex tubes is a must in today's hostile temperatures and operating environments, where maximising operating efficiency requires total product reliability.

Greater Corrosion Resistance Than Standard Duplex Grades

The underlying microstructure of Super Duplex stainless steel, S32750, consists of a combination of austenite and ferrite (50/50), resulting in improved strength over ferritic and austenitic steel grades. Super Duplex is different from standard duplex grades because it contains a higher amount of molybdenum and chromium. As a result, the material is more corrosion-resistant than standard duplex grades.

High Strength and Cost-Effective Corrosion Resistance

High strength is combined with cost-effective corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-rich environments, by the balanced duel phase microstructure. As with its counterpart, Super Duplex also offers reduced alloying costs compared with ferritic and austenitic grades, while it's increased tensile and yield strength makes it corrosion-resistant in chloride-containing environments. As a result, purchasers are often able to purchase smaller thicknesses without compromising quality.

Key Features of S32750

  • The strength of this product is very high

  • There is a good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in this material

  • Exceptional resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking when exposed to chloride

  • Weldability and workability are both good

Benefits

  • Corrosion resistance is very high
  • It can withstand harsh environments without pitting or cracking
  • The material has good weldability and workability
  • Tensile strength and yield strength are both high

GENERAL PROPERTIES

As a super duplex stainless steel, alloy 32750 may be supplied as the solution annealed condition, combining the desirable aspects of both austenitic and ferritic grades. Stainless steels with higher chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen contents have Pitting Resistance Equivalent Numbers (PRENs) of >41, offering pitting and crevice corrosion resistance superior to austenitic and duplex stainless steels in most corrosive media, along with a Critical Pitting Temperature exceeding 50°C.

RESISTANCE TO CORROSION

A few of the characteristics of UNS S32760 are as follows:

  • Halide-containing environments are resistant to stress corrosion cracking.
  • Exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
  • A high resistance to corrosion in general.
  • A high degree of mechanical strength.
  • Corrosion resistance and corrosion fatigue resistance.

WELDING

In many cases, alloy S32750 can be welded by using electric arc welding processes, but the use of oxyacetylene welding is not recommended due to the possibility of carbon pickup during the welding process.

HEAT TREATMENT

In order to achieve the best results, alloy S32750 should be solution annealed and quenched after either hot or cold forming. The temperature of the solution annealing should be a minimum of 1052°C.

Heat-treated products should be rinsed, then pickled, and cooled immediately after annealing. To achieve maximum corrosion resistance, heat-treated products should be quenched rapidly with air or water.

Smelting Option

  • An electric arc furnace is an EAF
  • Refined-smelting and vacuum degassing: EAF+LF+VD
  • The electro slag remelting process is called EAF+ESR
  • Electro Slag Remelting with a Protective Atmosphere and Protective Slag Remelting
  • Induction melting using vacuum and PESR
