This alloy is known for its corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive media. The high molybdenum content provides localised corrosion resistance.

Low carbon minimises carbide precipitation during welding so that heat-affected zones of welded joints are resistant to intergranular attack. Its nickel alloy properties have been attributed to Hastelloy Alloy Round Bars being used in harsh environments. Hastelloy C-276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with unsurpassed corrosion resistance worldwide. Fabrication and heat treatment
